I love this chill, old-school feeling disco version of Katy Perry’s The One That Got Away by Australian DJ Plastic Plates. The happy beat contrasts Perry’s melancholy voice and sad lyrics.

in another life, I would make you stay/
so I don’t have to say you were the one that got away.

Kaskade’s new two-disc CD called Fire and Ice is out tomorrow, October 25th, on iTunes. The first disc, FIRE, is more up-tempo, featuring collaborations with Skylar Grey, Neon Trees, Dada Life & Skrillex. A preview of Lick It featuring Skrillex has been high on the Hype Machine charts all week and has a cool disco feel but I find it a bit repetitive. Disc two, ICE, features a downtempo post-club feel, really showing his versatility. Here’s a preview of his ICE version of Turn It Down, which is pretty awesome because I’m a fan of the original. It’s really cool and calm until it gets to around 2:11 so if you have your volume turned all the way up you are very likely to Turn It Down (unless you want the shit scared out of you). The dubstep part is a random burst of energy considering it goes back to a really slow, calm, sleepy vibe for the rest of the song. I’m looking forward to seeing new sides of him (ahem, Kaskade dubstep? I’m down). I have high expectations so my boy Ryan better not disappoint. Pre-order the 2-disc album for $9.99 on iTunes and support his new sound.

I hate tragic news like this. DJ Medhi, French producer and half of the electronic group Carte Blanche, passed away in an accident involving a roof collapse in Paris last night. He was 34. Rest in Peace Medhi.
